Full-Time High School Mathematics Teacher
For the 2010-11 School Year

The Urban School of San Francisco seeks a high school mathematics teacher with an undergraduate degree in mathematics or a mathematical science to teach classes ranging from Algebra through Calculus.  The school is looking for a dynamic, creative teacher who has enthusiasm for working with high school students, a commitment to innovative pedagogy and collaboration with colleagues, and comfort and familiarity with the use of relevant technology to enhance learning. An interest in curriculum development and a minimum of two years’ teaching experience at the secondary school level are preferred.

Urban students are required to take three years of high school mathematics, and many take advanced courses.  The Mathematics Department encourages cooperative learning groups among its students, and integrates manipulatives, graphing calculators, and computers into its program. The curriculum for most classes has been developed at Urban, and is not based on any particular textbook. Specific course assignments are dependent upon departmental needs. Strong extracurricular abilities and interests are required.

Salary scale ranges from $46,000 to $90,000.  A comprehensive benefits package is provided, which includes medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance and the TIAA/CREF retirement plan.
